On the very last day of my conference, they held a closing ceremony and a final TA meeting before checkout. During the ceremony, we all watched a slideshow of the 10 days that the TAs had put together with their own photos, followed by a 5 minute hugging session. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten so many consecutive hugs from different people before, or such big group hugs. It was nice. We also found out the winners of the restaurant simulation. The winner was… Cinagro. They didn’t get any prizes or anything though, and they told us that second place was one point behind, and third place was a point behind second place, so a very close competition. In our following TA meetings, we each received a packet containing a couple of letters of recommendation from NSLC, a break down of our kitchen hours, and the phone numbers and addresses of all of the other culinary kids. They also gave us the email addresses of Steve Zagor, Antonio (the manager of Per Se), and Chef Davenport. I think these will be great resources that I’ll utilize. Overall, I think it was a really good experience. We may not have done all of the things that I thought we were going to, but I did learn a lot, and I think I opened a few more doors for myself as well.
(Oh and by the way, before checkout I ate my chocolate babka from Breads Bakery, and it was ah-mazing! Definitely would recommend it.)
